Catholic Opinion Polls

CFC has conducted several polls charting the opinions of Catholics both domestically and abroad. The compiled information can be found in the following reports.
Religion, Reproductive Health and Access to Services: A Poll by Belden Russonello Stewart (2000)   -  $5.00
A 2000 national survey on the views of American women conducted amidst a climate of takeovers and mergers of community and non-religious hospitals with Catholic institutions. Questions focus on the availability of reproductive health services, the extent and type of referrals and counseling given to patients, the filling of prescriptions and other aspects of health care that are impacted by religious dictates in medical settings.

The View from Mainstream America: The Catholic Vote in 2004 (Executive Summary) (2004)   -  $5.00
The Executive Summary of the 2004 poll of Catholic voters in the US.

The View from Mainstream America: The Catholic Vote in 2004 (Full Poll) (2004)   -  $10.00
The largest poll of American Catholic attitudes and positions on key election issues in 2004. More than 2200 Catholics, including an oversample of Hispanics, answered questions regarding the war in Iraq, national security, gay marriage, stem cell research, abortion, education, Medicaid and Social Security and the Catholic bishops' denial of communion and involvement in politics.

A World View: Catholic Attitudes on Sexual Behavior and Reproductive Health (2003)   -  $10.00
An indispensable report that provides opinion data, demographical information and behaviors of Catholics from dozens of countries around the world. While the institutional Roman Catholic churchùat the global, national and local levelsùexerts substantial influence on public policy and even medical practices in reproductive health, the data reveal that the policies advocated by the pope and bishops do not reflect the diversity of attitudes and practices among Catholic people themselves.

The Facts Tell the Story: Catholics and Choice (2006)  -  $0.00
How do Catholics feel about abortion? This brochure gives a quick but comprehensive sampling of the most up to date public opinion data available and shows that the majority of Catholics support the right to choose.

The Facts Tell the Story: Catholics and Contraception (2006)  -  $0.00
Do Catholics support the use of contraception? This brochure surveys public opinion data and polls to show that Catholics practice and support the use of contraception at the same rates as non-Catholics.

Catholic Attitudes on Condoms in the Prevention of HIV and AIDS (2007)  -  $5.00
As public health campaigns focus on condom use as a key to preventing HIV/ AIDS transmission, the Vatican maintains steadfast opposition to the use of condoms for any reason. In anticipation of World AIDS Day, Catholics for Choice asked Belden Russonello & Stewart to conduct an international poll of Catholics to determine their attitudes toward condoms and AIDS. BRS surveyed Catholics over 18 in Ghana, Ireland, Mexico, the Philippines, and the United States.

Conservative Catholic Influence in Europe Series

The Conservative Catholic Influence in Europe series is comprised of investigative fact sheets that expose the positions and alliances of some of the more aggressive opponents of reproductive health and rights throughout Europe.

Conservative Catholic Influence in Europe: Opus Dei (1997)  -  $5.00

Conservative Catholic Influence in Europe: Rocco Buttiglione (2004)  -  $5.00

United Nations and International Issues

CFC has long been a vocal critic of the Vatican's privileged place in international governing bodies. These publications deal with the Vatican's influence at the United Nations and in regards to other international issues.
The United Nations Population Fund in China: A Catalyst for Change (2003)   -  $10.00
In 2003, CFFC sent an interfaith delegation to china to investigate claims that the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) was participating in coercive practices regarding reproductive health choices. This report details their findings and makes the case that not only in UNFPA not participating in coercion, but in counties where there is a UNFPA presence, women's reproductive health and freedom has dramatically improved.
